ICEBERG CAPITAL · EDUCATION, NOT ADVICE
What is a market scanner?
A market scanner filters a large universe of stocks or contracts using defined conditions such as price movement, volume, trend, liquidity, or time. A scanner can help a person focus attention, but it does not explain why a move happened or predict what comes next.
Iceberg presents Stock Up and Stock Down observations as research. Review the symbol, timestamp, price, data quality, and surrounding market context before making any decision.
How to review a stock observation
- Check the time and price. A signal can change as the market moves.
- Compare the symbol with the broader market and its industry.
- Look for liquidity, spread, volume, and event risk.
- Write down an entry idea, an invalidation point, and the maximum amount you can afford to lose.
- Decide whether the observation still fits your plan before acting.
Options require a separate risk review
An option is affected by more than the direction of the underlying asset. Review the strike, expiration, premium, bid-ask spread, implied volatility, time decay, and the possibility that the contract can expire worthless.
Options can move quickly and can lose value even when the underlying asset moves in the expected direction. Never treat an options observation as a trade instruction.
Use research without chasing the market
A disciplined process separates observation from action. Wait for the data to update, confirm that the setup is liquid enough to review, size the position conservatively, and define the conditions that would make the idea invalid. If the risk cannot be explained in plain language, the idea is not ready for review.
